Small Fruitwood Bracket Clock by James Cowan
Although perhaps overshadowed by his pupil, Thomas Reid James Cowan
was an accomplished maker, who studied under Julien Le Roy in Paris.
His work can be found in the Schloss and Wetherfield collections.
We have a small timepiece by him with a typically plain Edinburgh case,
but unusually in fruitwood and with a beautifully engraved silvered
dial.
The verge movement has tapering plates and features maintaining power
and rise-and-fall pendulum adjustment. C.1760
